I've been using cycling shorts for about 20 years and have seen the styles change from comfortable to a nearly unusable style for me. I decided to try these for a few reasons: Sugoi has been around awhile and makes quality clothing, and these did not appear to have the "comfort" waist that I find uncomfortable, or the large leg band.I get these in hand and indeed they have a more narrow leg band and waist, so huge plus right there. However this is the first pair of shorts I've ever seen where the waist appears larger than the hips when lying flat (the stock image does not show that). Considering the waist is still extremely high (and I am very high waisted), this means there is not enough tightness at the waist to keep it lying flat when in a cycling position. In general, especially in smaller sizes, human waists are smaller than hips.Gone also is the drop we used to get at the tummy to prevent the fabric from bunching up while riding. Now I bend over the bars, fabric creases along my stomach and the elastic gaps across my back because it's not tight enough. These are not high-end shorts and the fabric reflects that, but that is about what I expected for the price.Since it's winter I haven't gotten a long ride in, so all I can say at this time is the chamois is comfortable for 60-90 minutes.I was pretty firmly in the Large category but I do feel I may have been able to get away with a Medium. I remember from years back that Sugoi was one of the "always size up" brands but that may not be the case anymore. If Sugoi could adjust the waistband to be like they used to be, with a drop in the front, and an elastic that does what it should, they would be high on my list of favorite shorts. As they are, I will probably use them mountain biking as I am in a more upright position there.
